Special Constabulary

The Special Constabulary (“Specials”) consists of volunteer police officers who have the training and full capacities of regular police constables. The Specials provide volunteer support for regular officers during peak operational times, as well as providing support for community functions and celebrations, and assisting with everything from from traffic enforcement and emergency response to proactive patrolling.

The Special Constabulary operates as a sub-unit of the RCIPS District Uniform Operations, and accordingly each Special Constable is assigned to work through a District Command Unit (police station). The ranks of the Special Constabulary include a number of Special Constables along with Special Sergeants and Special Inspectors. It is overseen by the Commandant who is assisted by the Deputy Commandant.

Specials are often members of the community who work full-time jobs in addition to volunteering with the RCIPS. They dedicate their time for the good of the safety of the islands, and are deeply appreciated by their colleagues in the RCIPS. They perform a critical service for the police, and by extension, for the people of the Cayman Islands.

From time to time the Special Constabulary conducts recruitment campaigns, the last of which concluded in September 2017.  An application form to the Constabulary can be completed and submitted via the button below and will be kept on file for review during the next recruitment.
